Friends of Cayucos Library (FOCL) is a membership organization composed of dedicated volunteers and supporters who provide a wide spectrum of services that benefit the Cayucos Library and the local community. "Friends" volunteer daily at the library, assisting the Branch Manager with a wide variety of para-professional tasks such as checking in and shelving library materials and orienting patrons to the public computers. Recently a group of volunteers received special training so that they can manage the circulation desk during the Branch Manager's meal break, keeping the library open for seven hours on Wednesdays. Other volunteers manage the ongoing used book sale in the library Community Room and manage two major book sales each year in April and September. FOCL's partnership with the Cayucos School continues to flourish as we develop more ways to support both institutions during these times of financial uncertainty. The FOCL, a 501(c)(3) not-for- profit corporation, is supported by memberships, donations and gifts. The Friends, managed by an elected Board of Directors, use these funds to purchase materials (books, music CDs, DVDs) for the Cayucos Library collection, underwrite the summer reading program for children and teens, purchase furnishings and equipment to enhance the library's physical appearance and functionality. In response to requests from the community to have the library open in the evening, the Friends entered into an agreement in January 2011 with the County Library to fund two additional open hours on Wednesdays. If you value the library and the many ways it connects its patrons with a world of information, entertainment and research, please join us by becoming a member of the Friends of Cayucos Library!
